That’s how cakes are frosted. The plaster is likely made from investment powder. Thanks for sharing…Rob
In the shop I trained in when we soldered in plaster it was in ordinary plaster of paris. It holds up perfectly well to the short time it takes to solder the pieces together.
Here’s an important tip: if you’re soldering platinum in plaster the particularly high heat needed for Pt solder causes something in the plaster to react with the Pt solder making the joint brittle. So once the piece is cooled and cleaned of the plaster it should be set in something else that is heat resistant (we used to use powdered asbestos) and the joints remelted. They then recover their strength.
Hi
i just love soldering holding hacks!
i do also enjoy the tedium of setting up multiple fine stainless binding wire…i like to tension twist the wires and then be able to check the fit tightness…

Have you tried “Hold it mud” Or Kate wolfs Soldering clay? Helps keep things together with no down time but t I’m sure its more expensive! Thanks for sharing!
Hi,
yes i have some and it is great,
i like the plaster idea for not needing any pressure on the parts
