Soldering gold to silver?

High all! I was working on my girlfriends engagement ring when I
ran into a small problem. The design calls for 4 gold ring
(twisted wire) soldered to the domed silver band. I would like
to know how to solder them together without the silver solder
running over the gold? I think I need to melt the solder over
the silver then place the gold rings down while it is still hot
but am not sure. Thanks in advance.

Donald, I am not clear as to the configuration that you are
describing, but there is a technique that I was taught that may
be of use to you. When connecting unlike metals, I solder a post
onto the back of the top piece. Then I drill a corresponding
hole in the lower piece. The post is inserted into the hole and
clipped flush on the BACK side of the bottom piece. The post
can then be soldered to the bottom piece at the hole with the
appropriate solder and there is nothing to show or clean up on
the front side! Works great! Good luck, Karen
