Software Inquiry

I would like to solicit regarding jewelry specific
software packages. One that I have been looking into is JewelSoft
and wonder if anyone has experience with this program. I would
really prefer a Mac software, but that does not seem to be
available. I am interested in point of sale, inventory and mailing
list capabilities.

Thanks,
Pattie

Pattie: We have been using a package called The Jeweler for about 6
months. After reviewing about four applications I chose this
one.20 We are running two stores, one is located in the largest
single level shopping mall in the US and the other is located in a
historical section of our downtown area. The mall location does
more sales than repairs and the downtown store has a very high
repair and special order volume. The Jeweler works great in both
locations and is very easy for new employees to operate. It is
giving us the opportunity to maximize profits and manage our
operating cost. 20 You can contact IBIS Inc., www.ibis-net.com, and
they will send you a demo version. Be sure that you tell them
that I suggested the application. I don’t receive revenue from
them, I am just a happy customer! If you want more I
would be happy post additional advantages and experiences.

A friend of mine just spend $650 on a jewelry inventory software
program dated about 1992 in DOS. Has anyone got experience on this
and were they ripped off? or is it a great program?

It is not jewelry specific, but MYOB (mine your own business) is a
general accounting, sales, invoicing, manufacturing, sales contact,
etc program. Upon setting it up you are asked a number of questions
about your business operation and a set of accounts is
automatically set up for you as per your type of business. All of
these accounts can be changed/deleated or what ever, you are not
locked into using what is set up. Does payroll too. Also can be
used at numerous locations (can’t think of what they call this at
the moment!!). Available in windows and MAC. This company
originally started with the MAC platform and have since rewritten
it in windows too. (QuickBooks is another simular package but they
are no longer upgrading the MAC platform. I have been on QB for
about 4 years but I am changing to MYOB because of the lack of
support from QB). Either of these programs are about $150.00.
Both are single entry that is then automatically posted to all
necessary accts. I think either of them offer a test package for
free or near free. MYOB does have a set up for manufactures where
one can set up a manufactured item that draws inventory parts used
in the item everytime you enter the mafgr’d. item so your parts
inventory is tracked as well as where the parts were used. I like
both of these packages and would suggest that those interested in
this sort of package take a look at them, especially before
spending $2-4000 on a spectaility program. As always, are updates
to these speciality p[ackages being developed and how much will
they cost when needed?

Good luck…

John
