Hello, I’m a trained gold- and silversmith (1995-1999) and currently
attending a training for metalsconservation in Amsterdam. For my
final thesis I’m executing a research into the use and removal of
soft solder on silver objects. I would like to learn about peoples
experience with this. I already have some specific questions: Is it
possible to remove soft solder from silver without damaging the
silver? When failure of the joint occurs, where does this happen, in
the soft solder, between the solder and silver or within the silver?
Have people noticed porosity in the silver, near the joint? Thank
