Smith Little Torch and Mexico

Hello Everyone/Hola a Todos:

I just moved to Mexico (August 2024, La Paz, BCS) and have spent some valuable time driving around to try and find the fittings/adaptors that I now need so that the hoses will actually fit on the local canisters of oxygen and propane. Has anyone else had experience here in Mexico with this issue? I’m willing to order from Mexico City if need be so that I can get my torch up and running. Ayudame. Si alguien puede avisarme sobre los adaptores que necesito p’que mi Smith Little antorcha de joyeria trabajara qui en Mexico…avisame porfavor.

Are you using the Little Torch with disposable tanks or full size tanks? The fittings are different.

Jeff,

I have to use the little tanks bc the large ones are not available.
The propane tanks for barbecue use don’t seem to be an option.

Is the problem that you can’t find disposable tanks in La Paz? Or is the problem that the disposable tanks in Mexico have different fittings from what you were using before?

Perhaps this thread could be helpful: https://www.expatforum.com/threads/filling-a-propane-tank.90516/

Not sure if I answered your last question Jeff, but the problem is that I cannot get the right fittings to adapt the hoses on my SLT to the available disposable oxygen and propane tanks.

I suspect as well that I will not be able to use a regulator.

Are these the type of Smith Little Torch regulators that you are using?

It not, can you do me a favor and take a picture or two of your set up and show us what’s not fitting? I’ve got a friend who is a jeweler and an art professor in Mexico City, but I’m trying to get more info before I reach out to her.

Thanks!

Jeff
