Small Items Storage Idea

Hi Everyone:

I had thought someone posted a while ago about the best way to store
beads, tools, small things, and what-not. I couldn’t find it at the
time, but here is where to find what I use. Go to
organize-everything.com and click on jewelry storage. These are heavy
canvas, hanging storage bags with clear pockets. I can see everything
really clearly and the bags themselves are heavy duty and they hang
right in my closet.

Another good trick is to use empty tic tac boxes, and set them into
a covered small storage box.

I would need 25 of the 80 pocket ones just to store my beads and
findings, and that’s only if the pockets are large enough!

I’d have to eat a LOT of tictacs! Good idea, though, since they are
clear. An option for free containers that are not clear (glue a bead
to the top for i.d.?) is film canisters. I get literally dozens of
them at a time from a film developing place - you know, the ones that
you take your film rolls to (there are still places like that, it’s
true). They just throw them away and would love to give them another
life. They also work for solder or scrap silver wire, filings, etc,
and other parts-is-parts things. They just need to be labeled; not
too hard.

I am in the process of ridding myself of all the unworkable “small
item” storage I have accumulated over the years, and replacing it
with these:

They are truly the best. Mine are from Baubles and Beads in
Berkeley, and, despite what the site says, I have no trouble fitting
several 8mm Swarovski in one little flip top box. The only size I
have is the one that comes in the larger plastic box.

My latest idea is to have both a studio and a living room (what
decorators call a “multi-use” room, lol) in this tiny cottage by
purchasing small flat files, in lovely birch, from Dick Blick. The
shallow drawers are wonderful for various jewelry-related items, and
can be pulled out, and put away, with projects in process. Now I just
have to be sure I can afford them…

Hello Orchidland,

My favorite small storage item is a plastic, disposable petri dish
for micropore filters. They’re clear and about 47mm diameter. I got a
bunch from a lab that was throwing them away since they were past
their sterile date. I’d like them better if they were square, but
since they were free…

Lots of great jam though.
