Hi, I live and work from my Airstream. I have a workbench right next to a large window and excellent cross ventilation. Essentially working outside and spend my time in southwest and have windows open 100% of the time while working.
I’ve been using a larger fan to evacuate fumes and dust but it’s over kill. I’m looking for a small thin powerful fan, maybe battery rechargeable, that will provide enough airflow to get rid of the big fan I’ve been using.
Anyone use a tiny fan when the larger exhaust is not required?
I like to move a lot of air through my shop, especially over the areas where I solder, polish, PUK weld, use LOS and work resin. For me, the more the better as long as it doesn’t interfere with whatever I am doing. I am sure that, if you take a trip on the Amazon highway, you will find lots of options. Good luck and share what you find…Rob
I once set up a small hooded ventilation system with a computer fan venting through flexible dryer duct . Worked well and very quiet. You can use two fans if you want greater flow, one at the beginning and one at the end of the vent hose.
Thanks everyone!
I’m probably over thinking this as I like to have good quality stuff but it’s just a fan!
I have an inline duct fan that is too much. Can’t even keep torch lit and takes up space. As I said I work from a rather wide open Airstream and just need to push the fumes and dust a little more from time to time.
My kids gave me a Dewalt battery driven fan for performance work in my bands. It is quiet and it moves a lot of air. I have set it in a window in my shop and it does a good job.
I bought a window fan many years ago for my summer time set up. I worked with the Utah Shakespeare festival doing old Renaissance metal smithing and jewelry arts. I had to set up a small work space in a small apartment. I used the window right above where my bench was. The fan had slide out sides so it would block the outside, but grooves so the window screen would slide down creating an extension to the screen. I had the fan blowing outward. Mine only had one small fan in the middle. It worked great. I did add a duct taped small roof over the outside to protect it during rain. Nice thing it was also made out of plastic that didn’t have problems with the types of fum4es I generated. It was quit, and actually helped to draw some of the A/C past me while I worked so it kept me cooler.
