Skin contact with copper and brass jewelry

Sometimes I use copper and brass in finished pieces. When I do I seal
the whole piece in a jewelry appropriate lacquer but I don’t think
this is sufficient protection against “green skin”. Any ideas on how
to treat the metal that will come in direct contact with the skin?
I’ve seen another designer solder silver or even gold to the back of
a copper piece, but I think it may be too expensive for me to go that
route.

Elkka, have you checked the Orchid Archives on this topic? In
general, it helps to oxidize the jewelry in something like Jax
Black, rub off the excess with a slurry of damp pumice, and (in my
experience) the jewelry will cause little or no “green skin.”
