Sizing Rhodium Plated Silver Ring

Frequently, I have been called upon to resize sterling silver rings
that have been rhodium plated. In the past, since the heat from the
torch has blistered the plated surface, I have sanded off the
rhodium as well as the underlying nickel plating before resizing. I
would greatly appreciate any suggestions that could help to prevent
the blistering or enable the restoration of the plating in the area
of the solder joint without stripping and replating the entire
piece.

Do a Nancy Reagan, just say no. Or tell the customer what to expect
if the ring is sized up or down. It’s hard enough to make a dollar
without giving away your time.
