Some time ago, I purchased a little bottle of liquid for testing
silver, in order to differentiate it from base metal. It says
"Silver Test Solution. TES-130.00" on it. The label warns that it
contains nitric acid and muriatic acid. But nothing on the label
tells me what color silver will look like when a drop of the liquid
is placed on it. I tried it on a necklace I think is silver, and a
light gray color appeared. I put a drop on a piece of brass and got
about the same color. This is not helpful! Can anyone advise me on
how best to use this test?
