Silver black safety issue

As a fairly new jeweler and member of the Ganoksin community I
have a quick question about safety.

I know that the product that I use to make silver black
’silver-black’ is supposedly not the healthiest chemical to be
exposed to. What level of protection do I need: a ventilator? Just
to use it by a window? Gloves? I’ve felt it get into cuts in my
fingers before and it burns pretty badly, so I’m assuming it’s not a
good thing.

I’ve also done it the old-school way, heating up liver of sulphur.
Is one method worse for you than the other?

Thanks everyone,
Rachel
