Silicone tape to seal torch fitting

Is it alright to use silicone tape to ensure a seal on a torch
fitting? If not, why? I’d appreciate details.

Thanks,
Marlenia

If you are referring to teflon tape, then no because the threaded
fittings on torches, hoses and regulators do not seal on the threads
but seal on the hemispherical mating surfaces of the fittings. Any
for gin object in the area could make the seal worse rather than
better. If you are truly referring to silicone tape to seal the hose
and not a fitting from a leak then no again as the likelihood of
getting a gas tight seal is not 100% so for safety reasons replace
the hose rather than tape it.
