Shipping jewelry to shows

Hi Everyone, I am doing the Buyers Market again this Feb and have
decided in light of current airport restrictions, it would be best
to ship my inventory rather than carry it on. Does anyone have any
suggestions how best to do this since I will not necessarily arrive
before the work does. Shipping to a hotel address seems risky,
shipping to a convention center sounds ridiculous. I have made an
attempt to contact the Rosen Group with this question but not been
called back and thought your advice was best. Thanks much.

I shipped to the Rosen Shows for many many years. they work with an
intermediate freight handler and items are normally delivered to
arrive in your booth on setup day. I dont know if he is still on
board, but Bill Frazier used to be coordinating this for DSA … at
times I made special arrangements with him to hold my packages in a
safer room than on the main floor till I picked them up. If Bill is
still heading the team with the freight handlers he is the one to
look for …he was always so helpful pleasant and always totally
efficient!BTW the extra cost is totally worth the headache of carrying
your stuff!

t.lee, have you thought about contacting an area jeweler or jewelry
store? If I had any business contact in the area they would be my
first choice. Failing that, you could call your good clients and
ask them if they know of any store in the area whom you could
contact about holding your work til you get there to pick it up.
Our business is small but pretty tight-knit.

You may also call a security service like Brinks or Wells Fargo to
see if they handle something like this. One designer I used to
share space with hired Wells Fargo to ship her line to Las Vegas.
They came by armored truck, picked up the work and shipped it out
(how I am not sure). She picked it up there at the show. Could be
worth a try, especially since there is enough time before the show
to work out the details.

One last suggestion, I forgot some pretty important things when I
did the Baltimore ACC show in Feb this year and had my wife ship it
to my via fed-ex the day before the show. I waited in the lobby of
the hotel and told the desk person where I was and waited for the
delivery to be made before I left to set up for the show. I did
have to wait a little longer than I wanted but I had the tracking
number and kept calling fed-ex to find out where it was. It may
sound a little inconvienent, but it may work out for the best
especially if you have an assistant (if you are so lucky) to wait in
the hotel for the package to arrive and if you had someone who could
ship it out for you the day before you needed it.
