Scared by "sterling" Questiom

Hi Folks,

Can you take a 1/4 rd. burr and write .925 or sterling? I guess
I should ask may I, because I already can. I only want to know if
it is allowed.

Hi Skip,

Can you take a 1/4 rd. burr and write .925 or sterling?

Sure can; just don’t apply it to anything with less than .925 pure
silver content. Who makes the stamp & wether it says Sterling, 925
or .925 doesn’t matter Just be sure it’s applied to the correct
metal. If a piece is stamped with it’s metal content, it should
also be stamped with the makers mark (hallmark, trademark). It
doesn’t do the puchaser of the item much good if he tests an
article stamped .925 & finds out its only 750. He needs to know
‘Who said it was .925?’ The content without the name of the
person/company making the guarentee is worthless, sorta like a
salesman’s statement.
