Sapphire rods

Can anyone out there give me a source for slender synthetic sapphire
rods. I heard that these exist and are made for the watch industry.
I’m looking for rods about 3mm in diameter and 2 to 3 inches long.

Any leads would be much appreciated.

Check out the “Saphikon” company. They make lab grown high-tech
sapphire in a great variety of shapes. (and for that matter in an
intriguing growth process in which the molten sapphire is “wicked”
into a sort of absorbent substrate which means it can be grown in
just about any shape, plates, rods, what-have you.)

I was given this web page by a person from Saphikon.

Hope that helps,

Howdy Don, Although there are true laser rods available, most
synthetic corundum is Verneuil furnace grown boules and they are
split to relieve stress. Could perhaps be ‘centerless ground’ or
soemthing for special purposes though I’d think some experimentation
may be required with that. Grady Harris would be a great resource at
