[San Diego] Craft stores info? galleries?

My partner and I are going down to San Diego next week and I would
like to know if anyone can recommend any galleries or craftstores,
etc that I should check out. I am just looking for interesting work
in metals mostly but also glass and other crafts.

thanks a lot!

There are two great galleries in the San Diego area that might
interest you.

  1. Taboo Studio - sells mostly jewelry - see their web page at:
    http://www.taboostudio.com

  2. Gallery Eight - sells contemporary crafts - their address is 7464
Girard Avenue, La Jolla, CA Phone: 858-454-9781.

Additionally at the Historical Society in Balboa Park, there is a
retrospective show of Arline Fisch’s work. Arline has taught
metalsmithing and jewelry for many years at San Diego State University
and is the author of “Textile Techniques in Metal”.

Have a fun trip. Steve.

As it turns out, I am also planning to visit San Diego from March 29 -
April 3. Any chance on hooking up with Orchid members during my
visit? I will be staying at the Homestead Hotel on Pacific Heights
Blvd and will have a car.

Thanks for the gallery info. I’m looking forward to some R&R.

As far as I can tell it is a difficult thing to find unique gallerys
in San Diego ,yes it is a beautiful place .Some of the best weather
in the country .I made a special trip to La Jolla ,a return to
gallery eight,so sorry and my wife and I were very disappointed with
how gallery eight has changed since our last visit .All of the wood
and much of the jewelry is no more. We did find one gallery closer to
the ocean which did have some nice wood work ,and many great gallerys
of fine glass .

My last visit to taboo studio was fun ,I would say there is so many
more fine craft gallerys in the northwest than in California. Michael

An interesting place to go is the Spanish Village Art Center. The
San Diego Enameling Guild is in Studio 5. There are other artisans
in the complex as well.

The address is:
Spanish Village Art Center
1770 Village Place, Balboa Park
San Diego, CA 92101
Phone is 619 233-3672

They will be having a juried show June 1-15, 2000. It is amazing to
see all the wonderful ways enamels can be used.

May you always enamel with passion in your heart
