Safe Handling of Abrasive compounds

Hello, I want to start using abrasive compounds in my vibrating
tumbler for nonferrous metals. It seems the best ones have
formaldehyde in them and I want to make sure I am using proper safety
procedures for handling and storage.

Storage: Does this give off fumes and should be stored outside (not
in the studio)?

Handling: I understand it’s important to use a respirator and gloves
when working with it, but do the fumes contaminate the air in the
room, or if running dry is it likely that dust may settle and
contaminate the room?

Anything else to consider?

Does anyone have a recommendation of abrasive compounds without
formaldehyde that work well (brand names please)?

Thank you everyone for this wonderful site.
