Please suggest good books for learning about ornamental turning on metal.

You could start with the book “Guilloche” by Shevlin.
Also join the Ornamental Turners International, and the Plumier Foundation.

See the 2015, 2016, and 2019 editions of the Santa Fe Symposium books, free to download, for detailed papers on engine turning. The Rose Engine, Straightline, and ornamental lathe are all covered in great detail including how-to info.

May I suggest the book “The Principles & Practice of Ornamental or Complex Turning” by John Jacob Holtzapffel. Copyright 1973 Dover Publications. There are over 600 illustrations.
