[Rolling Mill] Changing Mill rollers

Does anyone know if it is possible (and practical) to change the rollers in
a rolling mill? My rolling mill has combination rollers for sheet and
wire. I need to roll sheet wider than the sheet portion of the rollers and
I don’t want to buy another rolling mill to do this. It doesn’t look easy
to change them but I don’t think that I would be doing it very often as
most of my work involves rolling sheet rather than wire.

Thanks,
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

It’s possible. How easy it is depends on what kind of mill & tools you
have. There’s an import mill (Karat) from India, that comes with 3 differnt
rolls, flat, wire & pattern. The same or a similar mill is also available
from Contenti (maybe others also). It sells for around $250.00.

My first rolling mill was one I bought used and came only with square wire
rollers. I brought the whole thing to a local machine shop and had a new
pair of flat rollers milled to fit. The original rollers were pressed
into the gear mechanism but Pete (machinist) removed them and refitted
them with a set screw so that now I can use each pair of rollers by simply
releasing them from the mill and removing/replacing the gears. Hope that
makes sense. Michelle
