Rock shops in Portland Oregon

hello all

Over labor day I will be in the portland Oregon area, wondering if
anyone knows of some good rock shops with local lapidary rough.

I know, oregon has such a huge number of deposits, this is like
asking if there are fish in the sea, but perhaps the group knows of
a few shops in the area that have the better local rough.

Well, you can go to Ed’s House of Gems on Sandy Blvd & 79th (?) Its
a lapidary shop and geared towards hobbyists. I don’t think you will
find any great treasures, but its fun to poke around.

Its best to get out of Portland to the small communities in Oregon.
In Plush (a good long day’s drive from Portland) you can dig your
own rough for Oregon sunstone. There are other digs closer, whose
names are escaping right now. Are you in town for Art in the Pearl?

Boulevard in Portland.

During the Labor Day weekend there is a major rock show at Canby,
OR. It is held at the county fair grounds and hosts many Oregon,
Idaho miners. This town is about 10 miles south of Portland.

Ed’s House of Gems is in Portland proper and Hadley’s rock shop in
Vancouver, WA just across the river.

thank you, I will check it out.

It’s been my experience that a large local show always has some of
the more interesting materials, and of course interesting local
characters.
