Ring with moving metal parts

Question from a startup online jeweler: Does anyone have any
recommendations where I can get a prototype made for a ring with
moving metal parts, possibly involving ball bearings? One of the
parts will later likely be plated in a precious metal.

Also, does anyone have any opinion on domestic vs. international
metalwork for this type of prototype production?

Any recommendations, or leads – even for even just one
part of this prodction – would be extremely appreciated. Please
respond to: Janet at @jtt303. Thanks!

Hi Janet, You might want to ask Alan Revere about those sources
you’re seeking, Re: your mechanical design. Since he’s both
designed, made and won awards on a few such rings, himself, and
“intuitively” knows his way around the industry better than many
I’ve spoken with, I’d think he’d be a good starting point. You can
try him at Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, in San Francisco, at
(415) 391-4179 or email him at alan@revereacademy.com. If that
fails, you might give the MJSA a call, in Providence, RI. (I don’t
have their number, but it shouldn’t be all that difficult to track
down.) Good luck!
