Rhodium plating problem

Hello friends @orchid, I have had an experience twice this week
with my rhodium plating procedure. I’ve never seen it before. I am
simply plating white gold after repairs and the ring comes out of the
solution with a yellowish brown color. It is the same set up I’ve
used a hundred times with only one difference, the cleaner in the
ultrasonic is lye based (I can smell the lye). Could it be a lye
residue on the ring reacting with the rhodium solution? I always
rinse and steam before plating. Is there something wrong with the
solution all of a sudden? I hate to waste money replacing good
solution. Anybody got any ideas or experience to share with me?
Thanks, Patty in Missouri

Patty, Sounds like your solution has become contaminated. Jay Jewels
