Rhodium plating and opals

I am setting some boulder opals in 18k Palladium white gold bezels
(with a 14k white/nickel backing and bail)and am wondering if it is
possible to rhodium plate the pieces when they are set. We began
rhodium plating all of our white gold for customers with nickel
allergies, but have not set opals in white gold since we began
plating. I know opals shouldn’t be cleaned in the ultrasonic and
should only be steamed lightly, I am concerned that the temp. of the
plating solution (around 120F) or the electrical current may harm the
opals. Any suggestions?

You can also get a cold rhodium solution and the heat will not be an
issue. Mark
