I am new at selling my jewelry through galleries and wonder what other
folks do about returned goods.
There is probably nothing you can do this time but repay the $309.
In the future, however, you can write a clause into your contract with
the gallery which states that reimbursement for customer returns is
limited to “X” number of days from the date of purchase.
Find out what the gallery’s own return policy is. Some set a 30-day
return limit and others may have an unlimited return policy, which is
unacceptable for consignment items in my opinion. Then negotiate an
acceptable time limit with the gallery and put it in writing.
