Retipping using laser welder

To all you laser welders out there, I finally was able to come to
terms that the laser welder is primarily not going to damage
diamonds when retipping. I have been really pleased on how easy it
is to retip ( on diamonds), but you have no room for error on other
stones. I have experimented with pulse shapping(left high–right
tappers low) which seems to direct the laser towards the prong. Has
anyone mastered the retip and if so please share your knowledge. It
will be greatly appriciated.

I for one would love to hear about folks retipping with the laser,
my experience it is quicker and less cleanup with the torch, I was
told in my training at the factory that you basicly build it up
straight and clean it up and bend it over, too much time for me.

Are you having trouble with retipping or rebuilding the prongs I use
28 ga metal and low setting that just melts wire to the tip. Place
the wire on the portion of the prong away from the gemstone at the
heaviest part. Rebuilding the prong… 14ky 220v 3.0ms and 5.0hz 10
focus… If you need anything else you know give me or Liz a call…
have a nice holiday

Andy, I’ve got retipping down, but pulse shapping using the laser is
an art itself. I am just wanting more discussions on laser welding.
Things are going well.

I agree Scott. I would like to see more of it myself. The more
shared by people the more we all improve

I think I found the best setting for retipping. I used 210v 4ms 12
beam focus. I think this setting is perfect for building up prongs. I
know Rofin says that 230v is good, but I have found that to be too
high. It leaves the prong blue on top and from what I have heard that
means the setting is too high.
