Repeat Messages and Personal Mail

Why do many of the messages from Orchid get repeated more than once and why
do I get what seems to be personal messages between people of the forum
through the Orchid Sender?

Both are a waste of people’s time. . . . .

You are absolutely right. Authorising personal exchanges seems profitable to
somebody over there. Wasting people’s time is probably secondary to the
business …

Why do many of the messages from Orchid get repeated more than once

Some messages get repeated because when people respond to them, they do not
take the time to pull out the relevent reference and delete the
rest…however it can also be a quirk of an individual mailing program.
obviously, when someone is replying to a long post, like the spinel story,
it would be better to simply refer to it in one line and write the reply
instead of appending a two line comment to the entire thing. if a mailing
program really can not manage to isolate an important part for a reply, it
might be kinder to start a new message, entitle it RE Whatever and go from
there. Certainly it would save some band width.

ON THE OTHER HAND, if you are using this list as a technical reference,
and occasionally printing out discussions on various subjects, having the
sequence stacked up can be great. Look at Thomas Williams reply on the
channel setting thread this morning… it’s a great dialogue about
technique with lots or participants. So…personally I am willing to put
up with some mail program ineptness and just hit delete, and focus on these
valuable exchanges.

As far orchid being used for personal e-mail, while some of the posts
tread very near the line, basically it is all jewelry related. Again,
it’s just my point of view, but I feel leaving it pretty open brings some
valuable results. IMHO, this is a great work-it-out list with lots of
interesting voices on it, and the content to noise ratio is very good. I
have seen many many worse. Just my POV. Eve Wallace @eve_wallace
