I have not been following this thread, but at the risk of repeating something
said prior, I’ll contribute my $0.02.

I have filed US patents for various employers. I learned how on the Internet,
and CompuServe. If I remember correctly, there is a box on one of the forms
(yes, you can even download the forms) where you can check for foreign patents
as well. The last time I did this (about 18 months ago), it took about 3 months
to get the “Patent Pending”.

This list has had lots of good info on the patent process.

Forget the companies that offer to register your patent for you - they’re a rip
off. They charge outrageous fees and take a percentage on top of it!

Please note that “Patent Pending” does not give you any protection - it just
let people know that you’ve registered!
