Quenching jewelry containing diamonds

I rarely quench jewelry (mainly because I’m a to-the-trade repairman
and most of what I’m repairing contains stones of some sort or
another and it’s my understanding that hot stones don’t much like
being dunked into cold liquid.)

But I have a friend who is also a jeweler and he regularly quenches
jewelry containing diamonds into his boric acid/denatured alcohol
solution.

Have any of you heard of this practice? Have you done it? I’m afraid
to try.

In the old days that’s how we’d clean a dirty diamond. Get it really
hot and quench it. Would I do that now? Nope.
