I’ve never used it, but I always hear about Renaissance Wax being used for this purpose. But it is not permanent and will eventually need to be reapplied.

Interested to hear what other suggestions are made.

Much better and longer lasting is Meguyers Carnuba car wax. Cars take a real beating. So Meguyers can hold up really well. Renaissance wax is made to protect stuff that will in display case in a museum or store. I also use it to cover all of our polished metal working tools like finishing hammers, raising stakes ball punches and block, etc. When things get cleaned all we have to do is use a feather duster and the dust just falls off.

The OP was asking about how to prevent tarnish on finished pieces of jewelry. I have used both Renaissance Wax and Meguyers wax on finished pieces, I just like the way Renaissance Wax works over Meguyers. It is less messy. I doubt that there is anything that will provide a permanent protective layer on a piece of jewelry especially one that is being worn. I do use Meguyers on my polished tool surfaces…Rob

We had an interesting discussion on this topic earlier this year with lots of good information and a reminder of the contribution that Jeffery Herman made to our art. A link follows…Rob
