Friend of mine gave me a bunch of scrap gold. In with the stuff
was an old platinum engagement ring. The whole thing is platinum
(iridium-platinum). It also has 6 2 to 3 point diamonds (rounds)
on the sides. My question is this–I do not work in platinum. I
have a jeweler near my house that supplies me with scrap silver
(from silverware and stuff). I would want to trade this ring for
some silver. About how much would it be worth?? It is a 7 3/4
ring, thin shank. I believe that is pretty old because it has a
funky setting. How much would this thing be worth?? Don’t know
how much it weighs.

It depends, if it is saleable as an estate item, it is worth more than the
scrap price. The scrap price of platinum can be as low as approx $10/dwt,
so you might have about $25 or so there (I assume it is a light weight
ring) not counting the diamond weight.
