PLATINUM DAY VIII SYMPOSIUM SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 4, 2000
Texturing, High Luster Finishing, Casting and Other
Sophisticated Manufacturing Techniques to be Featured

(New York, NY – January 10, 2000) – Platinum Day VIII
Symposium, a premier educational event, will be held Saturday,
March 4, at New York�s Fashion Institute of Technology, 7th
Avenue at 27th Street. Jewelers, manufacturers and designers
interested in learning more about the fine art and precision
science that is platinum jewelry manufacturing are invited.
The day-long symposium will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
and admission is $75 for MJSA members and $85 for non-members.
Buffet lunch is included. James Marquart, MJSA president, and
Jurgen Maerz, Director of Technical Education for PGI-USA, will
open the conference with an overview of the industry with a
special focus on the growing importance of platinum and new
innovations in platinum technology. “Jewelers who spend their

Schultheiss Automation Systems; “The Growth of Platinum Jewelry,
and its Importance in the Overall Supply / Demand Equation,”
GORDON BASSETT of Johnson Matthey; “The Creation of 95/5
Platinum Investment Casting Alloy,” GREG NORMANDEAU of Imperial
Smelting and Refining Co.; “Basic Ceramic Considerations for
Lost Wax Casting of High Temperature Alloys,” HELMUT FRYE of
TechForm. A Question and Answer Session featuring all speakers
will follow the day�s presentations. Additionally, all papers
presented at Platinum Day VIII will be available later this year
in printed form.
