Plating

I would like to ‘make/build’ a silver/gold/etc. plating unit to include a
PLATING PEN… Find that the units on the market through normal supply
store to be very expensive…

Does anyone have an idea as to how to build a cheap one… has anyone tried,
for example, a ‘Sears and R’ car battery charging unit… if so is the
rectification adquate to provide a smooth finish, etc.

Jim:
I have been using a felt tip from a marker and two 1.5 volt D Cell
batteries in series to do some pen plating touchup.
I have the batteries in a battery holder and am using clip leads to
attach to the felt tip and the article I want to plate.
The article is connected to the negative clip lead and the felt tip is
attached to the felt tip.
I dip the tip in a small container of rhodium solution and hold it over
the area to be plated. It is important to have a small droplet of
solution suspended from the felt tip and hold the tip slightly above the
metal surface, allowing only the droplet of solution to make contact.

Hoe this helps, it is working for me.

Regards,

Roger
