Photoshop Elements ver. 1.0 vs. 2.0

I firmly believe that in most cases, it doesn’t make sense to pay to
upgrade to the next version of the software I am using until it’s
really necessary. Most upgrades are really only for increasing
sales, not for useful features. (It’s OK to call me a cynic.) Now I
need to decide whether to buy (for REAL $$) Photoshop Elements ver.
2.0, when I can get ver 1.0 for FREE with purchase of an input
tablet, which I need. Any experienced users with an opinion on
whether 2.0 is worth approx. $100 vs free ver. 1.0 ? Thank you,

David, Version 1 of Photoshop Elements hasn’t been sold for at least
two years, which makes me wonder how old the tablet is. Given how
quickly technology changes, there may be an input device that is
better for your needs, or more accurate, or…

As for the softwaRe: You can download a trial version of Elements
version 2 at
http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=40. I
believe they also list the differences between versions 1 and 2.

I just bought Photoshop Elements v. 2.0 for $57 at Sam’s Club. It’s
been highly recommended by the photographers I know. I haven’t tried
it yet.

Techtv.com has free downloads for programs that are similar to
photoshop. They have an archive that you can search.
