I run a small manufacturing unit and have been making jewelry fro
five years now. I run into problems every now and then but this one
has me totally baffled. A customer of mine wants us to make some
rings in 18k yellow gold and plate it with white and red gold on
either side. We have had it plated at two different places now but
the customer is not happy with the results, the red plating wears
off by dipping the piece in jewelry cleaner instantly. The white
plating stays on like a rock (perhaps due to the rhodium?), I tried
getting a white ring plated yellow and the yellow plating came off
too. Is it common, or do I need to look for a better plating
factory. We do not plate jewelry at all, this is the first time…
