I have the same type of anvil!
Recently someone blew my mind by putting a dapping punch in a bench vise and hammering the metal down over it, instead of using the punch to push the metal down into a dapping block. If you’re not finding an oval dapping set that suits you, maybe this would work? It seems like it’d be a free form type of process so if repeatability is a priority I’m not sure how it’d play out, but might be worth a shot.
Well thread has been around awhile.
When ever I find myself in need of an ovoid form or something other than a round domed shape I burn the shape into the end grain of a piece of Maple and scrape out the char until I have the shape I want. I can dap in the form with various ball punches or even a Ballpeen hammer.
