Orchid pin

Hi Hanuman, I would like to helpin this project. May be a committe
would be a good idea so there is not to much pressure on any one
person, and it might help in keeping things smooth and uniform. I do
personally have a lot on my plate right now but I will help anddo
what I can. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me when any
help is needed and let me know what I can do. I will try and
volunteer as needed andwill gladly email any ideas that I come up
with. I do think an actual base metal product is a good idea
sincethis is a jewelry forum.May be a picture of the product once
it iscompleted could be used as stickers. There are so many
talented people in this forum I am sure that the orchid picture or
pin will be very special. Thank you for all of your time to make this
a wonderful learning experience. I look forward to hearing from you,
Diane @benad

I’d love to be in on this one. I even have an idea already just need
the graphics of what is wanted on this pin. Matt W. Let me know

Wow guys, did not expect such a massive thread. I gat many email off
line. I will send a message to the forum during the coming weekend,
which will summarize this thread, after I will carefully read all
your comments.

Thank you all for such a warm support

In Singapore there are manyorchid pinsfor sale from a few pennies to
the ones at the orchid garden park Do we have a singapore local
orchiditeto look up getting them for the group at wholesale?

Stickers would be an affordable option, and flexible, as people could
add them to their show name tag. There are also the colorful
rubberbands with words on them, see www.wordstretch.com. We could
get a custom order to say Orchid or something.

Doesn’t it seem that we have this conversation once a year? Has
anything ever come of it before?

This orchid pin discussion is starting to go too far and is also
starting to sound like dialog at a PTA meeting about what kind of
sign to put up at the bake sale booth. This forum is comprised of
many highly individualistic people and some of us are even quite
eccentric. There are as many as 35,000 species in the Orchidacae
family, shall we first vote on which one to use? I will be in
Tuscon this year and I am really looking forward to meeting up with
alot of the interesting people on this forum, but I don’t expect to
walking around like some nerdy on-line forum clone. John (N.Z.) had
a workable idea as well as did Regis. If this is a project to make
some money for our forum, great. Then let’s admit it, cut to the
chase, knock out some SIMPLE little tie-tack orchid type thing and
let everybody throw down their 10 bucks and call it a day. Call me a
wet blanket, but I will not read another thing about the Orchid pin
until somebody gets real. Becky

Just noticed that 9 out of 35 messages were about this pin
concept…I also hope we don’t lose the focus of the “Best E’Zine” on
the web. I too would be happy to support Orchid with a subscription
based fee that would allow me to continue to interact with my peers
and share knowledge and And as I am an employee of a busy
custom retail shop, I am unable to get to Tucson for the show anyway.
I would love to see a ball cap or tee with a sharp logo on it, but
what if everyone doesn’t like the design, just as everyone doesn’t
like the designs that I have created? If we are to remain the best
E’zine, perhaps we all better cough up a few bucks to help keep our
forum alive and get back to the business of helping each other out.

I feel there is a big point being missed here by those who feel we are
belaboring this thread.

We did indeed have a gathering last year, and those of that were there
have even a greater appreciation of the talent on the list. We have
become more than “travelers passing in the night.”

There have been other meetings and will be more. It does not matter if
we wear a pin, hat, t shirt, or go nude for that matter. We are
reaching out to each other, and that is wonderful.

This is a moderated list, and Dr. Aspler knows when enough is enough.
Those who feel we have gone beyond this line in the sand, have the
option of ignore or delete.

We are playing in a sand box at this moment, let us have this
pleasure, it hurts no one.

Very good insight into the medium we have at
hand… I have an
appreciation for this group that is like having a best
friend…questions maybe obtuse but the sharing is the glue.
“Orchid” has been the tool missing from the drawer.

Just a little thought, maybe a bit anarchic, but why does the pin
have to be “standardised?”. I.m sure we could all come up with our
own design that would be perfectly obvious to another member at a
show, and yet as individual as we wanted to be. 3D orchids (hey, you
can buy gold plated real orchids … no, thought not) or orchid
designs on a flat badge in enamel or niello or engraved or etched, or
even the word “orchid” in plain text or psychadelic technicolour
swirls. There’s too much standardisation. The idea of a pin (and Tee
shirt) is great, but, just do it!

But, having said that, I would go along with the idea of a standard
design if it was produced commercially, provided it was in support of
the Orchid site. – Kevin (NW England, UK)

OK, here goes. I need something large and detailed enough to see
(the right click savable image on the Orchid page isn’t large enough
to get full detail). I will cut a metal mold with the emblem on a
flat oval (15 x 20 mm) background with a wreath border. I can cast
it in either silver or 10/14K gold - you tell me what you want. I’ll
get it to you raw and you finish it any way you want to. I get cost
reimbursement and you have your pin, pendant, whatever. I can
forward your name, email to Dr. Aspler so he can look forward to a
minimum contribution for the use of the emblem. If you think
“Orchid” is necessary somewhere on the design, no problem. I think
the more simple, the better - conversation starter.

Ron, I LOVE it, new slogan;

Orchid, The Missing Link (Tool)

You certainly have put into a few words what we are really all about.

Thank you,
