On using 3M wheels

I only use the brown ones and the blue ones. I stack them 6 thick
and use them like a polishing wheel. They are my new secret weapon
for getting firescale off of gold. You have to keep them moving to
avoid ridges. As for B&B’s in Virginia, I’m from the Wmsbg area.
Try staying in Toano or Lee Hall, if you want to avoid the theme park
and outlet mall traffic.

Wendy, There have been many discussions on Orchid regarding the
dreaded ‘fire scale’. The best thing I know for removing fire scale
is…don’t get it in the first place. Prip’s flux has been found to
be (one of) the best ways to prevent fire scale on both silver and
gold and, if used properly and regularly, will save you oodles of
time and effort. Granted, it may not totally eliminate the scale
but, what may form will be shallow and easily removed with pickle or
light sanding. Take a look in the archives for the informtion needed.

Otherwise, your tip on use of the 3M wheels is useful,…thanks!!
