NYC Galleries

Hey New Yorkers…

I will be in the Big Apple next week, for a short visit, and was
wondering if any one had a recommendation or two for galleries that
should be visited (besides A. Faber). And not just jewelry. What’s
hot in painting and sculpture?

Hi Douglas, If you will just be in the city, the galleries in Chelsea
have some great stuff going on, plus, since you have just a short
visit, they are pretty close together so you won’t be cruising from
one side of town to the next for one show here and there. Here is a
good link for you with a listing of the gallereis and links to their
websites.

Here are some quick picks: BIBRO “Manifestations III: Form and
Function.” Wearable art by more than 30 artists, including Lisa
Feldman, Joseph Stauber and Arlene Wilson. 529 W. 20th St. (212)
647-7030. Through Jan.

The new photo show buzz has been circulating around Joel Sternfeld @
Luhring Augustine. The NY’er mag and the times did stories on him
this week. Looks like some cool work.

The John Currin show is running at The Whitney. And the Outsider Art
Show starts at the Puck building this weekend.

Also, you can check out listings & reviews in the art section of
nytimes.com or pick up a Village Voice or Time Out NY magazine.
Enjoy your stay in the best city on earth! (I’m not biased or
anything) 8D Kindest, Kim

Kim,

Thanks for the info. The BIBRO show sounds interesting. I don’t know
this gallery. I’d also like to check out the Sternfeld show at
Luhring Augustine. The Outsider Art show sounds really interesting,
too. Where is the Puck Building?

I’m also planning to check out the early Rothko show at Pace
Wildenstein.(32 E. 57th). I wish I was able to stay longer. There’s
so much to do in NYC…too bad the galleries all close at 6pm on
Saturday, and are closed on Sunday and Monday. They’re open much
later in Frederick…
