Non-toxic method to blacken ear hooks?

Is using sulfur to blacken ear hooks safe or are there other ways to
do this?

Hi there –

I experimented with LOS a couple of weekends ago and dipped some SS
french hooks. I try everything out before selling something new. I
have worn them every day for a week and an half now. (My ears are
really sensitive and I can wear only gold or silver.) I can say with
great joy that I’ve had no reactions and the color has stayed on the
metal.

The three things I can recommend are:

Wash them well with water.

Let them dry at least 3 hours after dipping.

Seal them with wax.
