Nickel plate

G’day. Someone (I often prematurely delete mails!!) mentioned
that nickel is also magnetic, and so it is. But I suspect that
the only time nickel plating is used for “jewellery” is on iron
chains - and then you simply give it back to the customer when it
clings to your magnet. –

Well, I’ve seen it on silver jewellery also - it saves polishing
time, one could plate items that are only filed. If one plates
long enough, the item gets “polished” by the plating, as hollows
are filled more, until all the surface is level. We come across
those things more rarely, due to recent legislation, but there
are still nickel pated chains, earrings and so on. regards,
