New torch

I recently upgraded my torch from a propane/air torch to a Smith"
little torch" with re-fillable oxygen/propane. the torch comes with
tips #3 - #7. compared to the one tip on my other torch, they’re
tiny!. Haven’t tried the torch yet because I don’t have my 5lb
propane tank yet, but am wondering… will the #7 tip be large
enough for annealing, for example a 2" x 2" piece of 20 gauge
silver? or will I need to purchase the multi orifice tip as well? My
propane/air torch doesn’t seem to have the heat for annealing
something as large as 2"x2" 20 gauge. Polly.

Polly, The #7 tip is more than adequate to anneal the piece you
mention. You should be able to do it with a #5. Jerry in Kodiak

Polly,

By all means, the #7 will handle that size of silver. For many
years I used a #5 and finally picked up a #6 which I use for anealing
and soldering now. So your #7 should do a fine job. Just be a bit
patient!

Polly, There is a melt tip for the little torch you can find at Frie
and Borel or the like.
