Thought you would all like to read an interesting article in Wired
that my husband found.

Really interesting! I like the comment toward the end, about
florists’ orchids not being grown wild in the jungle but in
hothouses. Puts a different spin on the natural vs enhanced
discussion.

IT had to come, sooner or later we as “human beings” have attempted
to or have done things which the Lord Almighty has done before us,
Perhaps this lends some credence to the axiom That God created man in
his own image. So why should we not try and create or in our case Re
create every thing he has made, I thought the article in Wired was
great, some of the comments by dealers were as to be expected, and
Unfortunately I find my self in agreement with the comment about the
Gems being as related to hot house orchids, Beauty is Beauty as is
perfection The part of the story I found disturbing was De Beers
attitude, you can bet it will be hard to get in to a lot of markets,
If the Diamond Mafia plays their usual trump card and tells major
buyers that if you buy any of the Apollo or Gemesis goods, you will
never be invited to another De Beers site, or to the retailer their
comments You buy blood diamonds, You don’t buy from De Beers will
also apply to the Lab Created stones. Put more simply If the Cosa
Nostra were run as well as the De Beers Cartel, the Mafia would be
running the F.B.I. Now about that brain transplant!!!

And then, to expand this a bit to another aspect – How about what
the artificially-manufactured opal industry is doing (and hopes to do
more thoroughly) to the Australian opal industry? What about all the
"treated" stones (everything from Turquoise on up) that are
"artificially" made “more desirable”? Face it, folks – it’s just one
big cat-and-dog fight nowadays! Margaret

The part of the story I found disturbing was De Beers attitude,
you can bet it will be hard to get in to a lot of markets,

I see no problems getting into any markets at all. If these goods
really can be produced for as little as $5/ct, the industry will have
nothing other to do but restructure. I suspect that even the syndicate
will decide to dispose of it’s stockpiles.

If the Diamond Mafia plays their usual trump card and tells
major buyers that if you buy any of the Apollo or Gemesis goods,
you will never be invited to another De Beers site,

I suspect that a lot of cutters all around the world will be
expanding their operations. The cost if waste will be way down. Speed
will be picking up.

As we write this I am sure that a lot of people that are sitting
with their money tied up in diamond stocks are reconsidering their
positions. In the end, I look forward to this. It may mean that a lot
of people will have more money to spend on custom work.
