Need name of pearl

Recently in a gallery I saw some work done with an unusual
freshwater pearl. It was about 2" in size, white. Imagine a pearl on
steroids as it had at least 6 appendages…and was not round in
appearance, but angular. Some parts were parallel with other
appendages intersecting. I asked if anybody knew the name of the
pearl and they didn’t…nor did the artist, but thought it to be a
’forced growth’ pearl

They were purchased at a Gem Show and that was all the info I could
obtain. Anybody know what this could be or where I might find it?

Thanks,
Liane Redpath

We purchased some from my importer friend a few years ago. They are
in the form of a cross. It is my guess that the “seed” that is placed
in the clam has the original shape.

Oyster, not clam.

Mollusk, probably a mussel…

Oyster, not clam.

You can get pearls in clams too, but apparently they are rare.
