Here a piece I’m working on for my daughter. I’ve included a shot of the backs to show reinforced corners.
The stone is Jade .

You are very skilled and have a great imagination for jewelry design. Thanks for sharing! ![]()
Thank you Tammy.,
I have another one planned using the Tennessee quarter on one side and the Nevada quarter on the other side (wild Mustangs at Sunrise) I believe I’ll set them separately using Copper back plate because they will be attached and copper won’t come into contact with skin, just the quarters and the 100% Silver Bezel material.
Thank you again for your very encouraging remarks, I’ll post new necklace soon I’m working on a piece of old Sitka Spruce and metal for a Church. I’m working on Crown of Thorns right now and I’ll post progress soon!….~~~*Stv
Steven,
I have made several similar guitars for friends in my circle of musicians. I have made babies and autoharps too.
Your’s are very nice work.
Don Meixner
Thank you Don,
I overcame the problem that strings present to the craftsman, So I used some decorative Silver for the fretboard and some decorative pieces around the Sound hole. Attempts to put strings on just get messed up and ruin the design. I think the Quarter w/petticoat edge Says It All. This was the Original and I made a mold so I don’t have to do all the Pieces that I assembled with this one.
If You get a chance post a pic of your GTR work I would be interested in seeing how you solved the design problems. I’ve played GTR for most of my life, first were the drums then GTR, and Now I’m Working on Piano and Digital MIDI Keyboard a part of my Workstation for Recording, I certified as a Pro-Tool “Operator”. and I also Paint Became Teachers Assistant At Our Junior College for awhile, Not recently. I am finding dealing with TIME is one of my biggest problems, finding more of it is in eliminating Interests I am not capable of and or not interested in enough to share space with my Other Interests. Wood Working, Art, Jewelry, Metal Sculpture, Music Composition, Recording, Practice, Practice, Practice, of all these. Takes lots of TIME money for materials. Time is the most important of All These. Sometimes I can combine. My Materials I Find In Many Different Places, This Is What I Love About Found Art. For Example The Cross I Shared In The Same Posting, The Wood Came from Re-Store Habitat for Humanity, Very Splintery Ugly Old Wood But I knew there was Beauty There I Just had to get rid of some Layers Of Time. Once I Did and Tung Oiled It Man It was worth it, Then The Letters LOVE Are Cast Iron I Found At A Community Sale Then A Year Later At the Same Sale I Found The Cast Iron Stars. Wire Brushed and Painted They Will Symbolically Represent Christ’s Sacrifice and His No. 1 Commandment LOVE . For His Crown Of Thorns, I’m using : Solid Copper Pipe, Sliced in 1 1/2 “ and Overlaid with Braided, Stranded Copper Wire (battery Cable, maybe?) and The Thorns Will be Represented in Brass, Copper and Stainless.
The Three Stars Representing the Spikes (painted Blood Red) Will be Encircled With Castel Nuts In A Heart Shape. A Number of Techniques Will Be Employed To Hold it all Together. The Spruce Is REALLY Hard, More Challenging Than I Expected. Pardon My Rambling I’m Getting To The ANCIENT Stage Of Life and I’m Able To Draw From All The Trades and Information passed Down and imparted. I’ve had Some Great Teachers That Became Friends and Cherished Memories…..~~~***STV
Hi Steve,
I love your process!
I too have a long list of skills i want to spend time on…sometimes i have to settle for the immediate gratification of watching videos of people working with the actual skill and following along in my mind…i know that if i can see it, i can usually do it…i call this my being an armchair jeweler😆
it saves me a lot of time and spending money on tools😆…(although that jewelry tool train has already left the station😆)
i recently fell down a sewing hole…
and am climbing out to tip (back) into a woodworking hole…
I won a $100 gift card for Home Depot at a fundraiser recently…this may be the impetus to buy my bandsaw…or belt sander…or drill press…![]()

Steve I find the easiest way to deal with strings on my instrument shaped pendants is to not worry about them. The same with banjos and fiddles. Folks will know what they are without the strings. Except maybe for bass players.
My hands are pretty messed up so I have trouble working very small. I find that to hint it what you are trying to say in a design can often speak volumes.
Don
Amen to that Brother Don. I’m glad you’ve backed up my belief on that Note:musical_note:
Thank you. Design has it’s Own type of Harmony and in My Experience when executing a design Sometimes I change what I’m doing on the Fly Because my sense of Balance and proportion guides Me to do so.
My Current Project has Morphed a Few Times Since Starting it. I posted pics of a Cross and Now I’ll Update Progress (Fires have Slowed Me Down, more than Old Age:hourglass_done:)!!! I’ve Managed to drill through the Cast Iron and Chinch It Down, Without Breaking It ![]()
