Curator of Jewellery

The Museum of Islamic Art, Doha opened to great acclaim in December
2008.

It houses one of the world’s most distinguished and important
collections of Islamic art ranging from Spain to Central Asia and
India, dating from the 7th to the 19th centuries, and encompasses
arts of all kinds. Particularly important are the collections of
early Qurans and other manuscripts, inlaid metalwork, carpets and
textiles.

The Museum is seeking an experienced candidate with energy and
motivation for the full- time position of Curator of Jewellery. The
Curators are responsible for the maintenance and public presentation
of the MIA collection according to the latest scientific research and
international museum practice. This includes cataloguing, research
and publications, and contributing to display and exhibition
development.

The ideal candidate will have a significant record of museum
experience and a proven ability to be a productive and collegial team
member. S/he will have excellent knowledge of Islamic art, a high
level of subject-specific expertise, relevant Middle Eastern and
European languages, and excellent interpersonal skills. A substantial
publication record and experience of working in the Middle East are
both desirable.

The Curator of Jewellery will report to the Head of the Curatorial
and Research Department.

The Curatorial and Research Department is part of the MIA
Collections Division, which also includes the Conservation,
Exhibitions, Registration, and Galleries Departments. The Collections
Division is managed by the Deputy Director (Collections), who reports
directly to the Director of the Museum.

The post is full-time, based in Doha, and attracts a competitive
salary and benefits package.
