MJSA Free Molds

Hello All, Yes it’s MJSA time again in NYC. I will be at the
Castaldo booth cutting molds and answering questions about all the
products including a couple new ones. Bring something ring or earring
size for me to mold for free. Also if you have any casting or
finishing questions bring an example, sketch or idea with a note pad
and we can push a pencil around. As many of you know working the show
is a little different than attending. I enjoy catching up with folks
I haven’t seen for a year. I regret I will not be able to make the
Orchid dinner as Sunday night our booth group does our annual dinner
meeting. So please drop by the booth to say hello. John, J. A.

I had the pleasure of meeting John and his wife yesterday at the
MJSA Show in NYC. They are delightful people and John made me a
fabulous mold.for free! Thanks John! John’s company J. A. Henkel
Co., Inc. does moldmaking, casting and finishing in Maine. I plan on
using their services for a small production I am doing for the
Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “First Cities” Show this Spring.

Humm, funny, I was at the booth and did not even say HI. I
completely forgot that they were doing free molds, else I would have
gotten something done, or just a quote. Anyrate, does anyone have
their contact info? I am looking for a new moldmaker/caster for
small runs.

Hi all!! MJSA was great. Best of all meeting everyone from
orchid. It was so nice to put faces to names. We all talk about being
a family and now I understand why. Everyone I met at the dinner
Sunday night in NYC made me feel if we had been friends for some
time. Thanks to Ken and his wife, I know they were very busy. The
restaurant and food was great.Thank you for your energy!!!

I too was at the booth and received a similar response. You might
want to try Jesse Kaufman. He is at Master Molds,
jdkdesigns@sbcglobal.net They were wonderful and very helpful.

Hi Silverfoot, Sorry I missed you at the show. I did some fun molds
and talked to some great folks. We always enjoy meeting all the
Orchid people. Kate wolf was answering someone’s post earlier about
clear mold compound. I’ve used different types in the past. Castaldo
has a new one out that will hit the shelves soon. You should try this
one Kate. It is water clear. It mixes on a one to one ratio by
WEIGHT. Be sure to vacuum a good long time and you will have good
results. Although it says it cures in 18 to 24 hours, I find that you
should let it cure a couple of days for the best results. True, it is
a good confidence builder for new mold slicers. If you need help with
molds or just have a real tough one that you want me to cut, I’d be
happy to help. I can only do free molds at the show. Most of the
molds I cut are put in production here at my shop so I see the
results and I’m constantly pushing for a better cut. The goal is to
inject a wax that pulls easily without distortion while keeping
parting and vent line impact to a minimum. You can contact me at
