Metal Tea Strainers

I bought one that claimed to be “All Stainless Steel”, but part of
the chain and attachment were not, however since these were just
wire attachment & hinge parts, it took only a few minutes to
fabricate copper / brass replacements. To test, just dip the
strainer in the pickle empty and look for any signs of plating, then
replace the offending parts, or return it to the store with the
evidence of the non stainless nature of the item.

Hope this helps,
Ed

Does anyone know if the metal mesh-spring tea strainers are
pickle-safe stainless steel?

Hi Janet, I don’t think so. I believe some of the ancillary hardware
is common steel. Like the hinge pin. You could probably test with
some scrap silver and some old pickle. Of course, I wouldn’t
recommend using for tea again, if it fails the pickle pot test!

All the best,
Dave
