NC State offers some classes; the Raleigh Rec Dept does too, I think
at Pullen Park. There are classes in Carrboro at the Arts Center.
Monnda Welch offers classes outside of Pittsboro - not that far
really. There is also the NC Society of Goldsmiths
http://www.ncsg.net/ which offer workshops about 4 times a year.
Raleigh also has several mineral clubs - check

They should have contact info for the rock groups. Those often offer
classes also.

Good luck and have fun!
