Hi, Mark,
I read your article in LJ last night-- on building or adapting
tools. It was interesting and stimulating, but ultimately the
suggestions were a little too skeletal to be clear to me in most
cases. Was there, by any chance, a longer version they edited down–
with more detail about the tools you touched on? I really don’t
understand, for example, how you get from a slitted piece of steel
rod and some leather to a variable diameter polishing tool.
It is a real service to point out that we don’t have to just settle
for the tools that are available. Making the mental leap to tool
creator is not so easy, at least for me. It is a new way of seeing
things, and I’m not there yet.
So-- what are you going to do with the Chinese spindle lathe?
