X Symposium ARS ORNATA EUROPEANA
Lisbon 7, 8, 9 and 10 July 2005
ARS ORNATA EUROPEANA is a Symposium organised for the international
community of jewellery artists. The Symposium’s first edition took
place in 1994 in Cologne, Germany, launched by Forum Schmuck und
Design. It is an annual or biennial event which rotates between
different countries. The 10 th edition of Ars Ornata Europeana is
organized in Portugal by PIN-ASSOCIACION PORTUGUESA DE JOALHARIA
CONTEMPORNA in collaboration with, among others, Ar.Co Centro de Arte
e Comunicalo Visual, the Exhibition Centre of the Centro Cultural de
Bel’m and the National Museum of Historic Art (Museu Nacional de Arte
Antiga). Multiple events are being held in these and other venues.
This year’s Symposium theme questions the place of the jewel, its
evolution and constant presence /absence in daily life over the
past, and the way other disciplines connect and interact with it.
Various events are programmed - talks, workshops and exhibitions with
several of the exhibitions remaining open through the summer. The
intention is to promote a broad overview of contemporary jewellery,
stimulating interaction between ideas and histories.
